Imphal, February 06 2019:
SSA and RMSA teachers who decided to protest by blocking the route of the Chief Minister entourage, were dispersed by police today.
According to a reliable source, the CM was on the way to attend the inauguration programme of a training cum production centre at Khadi and Village Industries Board, Lamphel, when the teachers decided to protest by blocking the road.
However, they were quickly dispersed by police who resorted to using tear gas against the protesters.
It may be mentioned that SSA and RMSA teachers have been carrying out protests demanding regular payment of salaries, promotion opportunities and to be absorbed under the School Education Department.
The tribal student body then said that, in most of the States of India, the upper age limit for appearing civil service examinations has been increased from 35 years to 45 years.
On the other hand, Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) has urged the State Government to come to an agreement with the protesting teachers at the earliest in the interest of the students and the academic atmosphere of the State as a whole.
A press release issued by the general secretary of MSF today further appealed to the protesting teachers to call off their agitation in the interest of the students.
MSF then questioned how the Government's Go to School mission will succeed if the teachers are given their salary only twice or thrice in a year and added that even though teachers have not been paid regularly for long, the authority concerned has failed to take up any tangible and positive steps to address the issue till date.
Appealing both the protesting teachers and the State Government to come to an agreement at the earliest, MSF further appealed to the teachers to call off their cease work strike in the interest of the students.
