Thoubal body alleges anomaly in electoral rolls, petitions ECI

Alleging that an excess of around 3,000 voters have been included on the sly in the electoral rolls of Thoubal Assembly Constituency, which has 37 polling stations, and that a complaint over the matter was not redressed by the RO, DOs and BLOs concerned, Thoubal Kendra Kanba Lup has petitioned the Election Commission of India for necessary rectification.
Talking to mediapersons at the Nityapat Chuthek office of BJP, Manipur Pradesh here today, Indira Oinam, who is preparing to contest against Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh for the Thoubal Assembly Constituency seat in the upcoming election to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, informed that the petition has already been filed with the Election Commission of India.
Indira recalled that following a notification issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur state, DOs and BLOs have been appointed under ROs for visiting each and every household in every Assembly Constituencies for verifying the actual number and names of the electorates.
The exercise had been conducted from September 29 to October 29 .
To assist in the exercise, Political parties have also appointed their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) .
Interestingly, in Thoubal Assembly Constituency, which has 37 polling stations, it has been detected an excess of around 3,000 voters have been included on the sly, and such illegal entries have been recorded highest in polling stations 31/1 and 31/13.Moreover, entries of monogamous men having three wives, the dead recorded as being alive, double votings for married women and non-deletion names of voters who have shifted to other places from the electoral rolls have been detected in all the polling stations.
As complaint over such illegal entries have not been entertained by the BLOs and other higher authorities, Thoubal Kendra Kanba Lup was compelled to take up the matter with the Election Commission of India, Indira explained.
