The Power Department's crackdown on defaulter consumers and illegal connections will become a doom to the students when board and council examinations are nearing, said N Tomba, Chief Advisor, All Manipur Private Schools' Welfare Association today in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Tomba said that the crackdown of the department has spelt doom to the students who are preparing for the Board and Council examinations.
In the name to collecting default taxes from its consumers, the department is indirectly affecting the education and careers of the students of the state.
Appealing the department to withdraw it decision, Tomba said that the association will file PIL to the high court and even would seek legal assistance from the Supreme Court if the department failed to withdraw its decision.
He alleged that the department is not doing anything to realize the due bill amount of Ministers, MLAs, government departments and high ranking officials.
Instead they are giving harassment to the poor public.
Moreover the officials of the power department demand Rs 100 to 200 from a government employee in times of taking out No Due Certificate, he alleged.
If the department does its duty sincerely, only then the consumers will pay their bills regularly, Tomba said.
