Manipur Levy to observe in Kachar too: Dr Sushila

The Manipur Levy will be observed every year at the Manipur Levy Ground, Cachar and statues of Maharaja Gambhirsingh and Narasingh will be erected at the ground, said Dr K Sushila, Deputy Director, Manipur State Archives during the Commemoration of Manipur Levy held at Cachar.
Manipur State Archives in association with Barak Valley Meetei Convention and Maharaja Gambhirsingh Memorial Committee, Chandrapur organised the function.
Speaking in the occasion, Dr K Sushila said that Maharaja Gambhirsingh and Narasingh established Manipur Levy at Chandrapur in 1828 during the historic 'Seven Years Devastation' and save Manipur from the custody of Awa.
In his speech, former member Manipur Human Rights Commission, NG Nongyai said that the Manipur Levy Ground should be renovated by giving pressure to the Assam Government from the side of Manipur government.
President, Barak Valley Meetei Convention, Yengkhom Madanmohon, ex president Manipur Sahitya Parishad Assam, Ngariyambam Nabadip and retired Joint Director, Department of Panchayat and Rural Development, Thokchom Birmohon also attended the function.
A seminar on 'Cachar-Manipur Relation' will be held tomorrow as part of the function.
Naoroibam Indramani will talk on 'Manipur Levy and Its Active Role in Liberation of Manipur from Burmese Occupancy' in the seminar.
