Imphal, January 30, 2011:
BJP will raise the issue of the electricity department's crackdown on the poor consumers in the Lok Sabha session which is to be held in February.
The party will prepare a charge sheet against the department and the SPF government and will submit the same to the President of India, said Laimayum Basanta, Secretary Media Affairs, BJP Manipur Pradesh.
He said that other states in India have separate rates of power taxes for normal families and BPL families.
However in Manipur, families in Thoubal pay only Rs.190 while other districts pay Rs.410 monthly as electric bill.
Basanta said that consumers contribute large amounts and repair faulty transformers.
The power department committed a crime by demeaning a poor innocent girl when they could not find her parents at home.
Moreover the department did not give any chance to clear the due bills to its consumers, he alleged.
The BJP high command's report will focus on the present power crisis to draw attention of the President.
BJP leaders will also come to collect reports of the giving away of Kabow valley to Myanmar, Basanta added.
