Imphal, February 27 2019:
Despite various efforts and laws being enforced by the authority concerned for the safety and protection of women and children from sexual assault, two different cases of sexual assault of minor victims, one by the victims own father and another by the uncle of the victim, were reported before the Court during the last 4 days.
In the first case which reportedly took place in January, the accused father and the mother of the victim were pulled up from their residence by a team of Lamphel PS yesterday night and produced before the Court of Special Judge, POCSO, Imphal West yesterday.
The IO of the case, through the APP, submitted that at around 7.30 pm on Feb 25, a complaint was lodged by Protection Officer (IC) DCPU Imphal West, to Lamphel PS that based on information received regarding the rescue of a minor victim by Meira Paibis, she (the complainant/ Protection Officer) along with a team of Childline Imphal West, rushed to the spot and found the victim.
Upon inquiring, the victim claimed that she had been repeatedly raped by her biological father from January onwards at her own house and added that heinous crime was even once witnessed by her mother.
Medical examination of the minor was conducted at RIMS Forensic Sciences Laboratory and she has been given shelter at Nirvana Foundation, the IO added.
After hearing the submission of the IO, the Court remanded the accused father and mother to 3 days police custody for further investigation of the case.
On the other hand, another case of a minor who was sexually assaulted by her own uncle, was reported on February 24, around 4 pm.
The accused has since been remanded to police custody till February 28 after he was produced before the Duty Magistrate.
In the complaint lodged against the accused at Patsoi PS, the victims mother stated that her daughter was sexual assaulted by her (victims) uncle on February 22, at around 1.30 pm and she (the mother) came to know about the incident when her daughter narrated the incident to her.
In the complaint, the mother also claimed that she could not raise a complaint regarding the matter on time due to social stigma.
On the same day the complaint was lodged, the accused uncle was arrested and handed over to Women PS, Imphal West.
