Imphal, November 07 2016:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has threatened to boycott the State's largest tourism carnival Sangai Festival if the State Government fails to produce the police personnel involved in the alleged thrashing of DESAM volunteers including its president Angamba on October 29 .
Addressing mediapersons today at DESAM HQs, Keishampat, DESAM secretary general N Edison said that the order issued by the Superintendent of Police, Imphal West wherein it stated to have appointed Additional SP (Ops) Th Vikramjit as the enquiry officer to conduct a thorough probe into the incident and submit a report within a month is not acceptable as it will never uncover the truth.
The enquiry should be conducted by officials not below the rank of DIG and reports should be submitted within November 20.If the authorities concerned fail to pay any heed to the demands, the student body will let the people know the custodial torture of innocent civilians, he added.
Further he warned that the student body will also boycott the Sangai Festival if the State Government tries to conceal the incident and fails to produce the involved culprits.
