The shocking revelation by the news weekly Tehelka on the July 23 firing incident at BT Road area has reportedly compelled the State Government to scamper for cover and introspect conduct of State police commandos.
According to an informed source, top Government officials along with the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who also holds the Home portfolio, have gone through the photos flashed in a local cable television network and have asked police department authorities to explain on the matter.
It is informed that, after establishing veracity of the expose appropriate actions is likely to be initiated.
When The Sangai Express contacted and sought comment from the DGP Y Joykumar, the police chief insisted he is yet to go through the photos or the accompanying report.
No further comment or reaction could be elicited from the police chief on the alleged highhandness of the police commandos.
BT Road firing protested: Continuing to exert pressure on the Government to institute a judicial inquiry into the incident of reported shot out at crowded TB Road of Khwairamband Bazar in which one pregnant lady and a UG suspect were killed while causing injuries to five other persons, members of Naoremthong Apunba Meira Paibi Lup today staged a Wakat Meepham at Naoremthong Bazar.
Placards with slogans like 'We demand judicial inquiry', 'Police commandos involved in killing innocent people should be punished' 'Stop killing innocent people, Repeal AFSPA', 'Stop fake encounter in Manipur', 'Shoot out in public places is condemnable', 'We strongly condemn Rabina killing', etc were used during the protest demonstration.
