Imphal, August 01 2009:
Reacting to the Tehelka expose on the July 23 firing incident at BT Road, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has questioned the morale sanctity of the State Government in refuting the report.
speaking to newspersons at its Lamphelpat office this evening, UCM president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar asserted that photos flashed by Tehelka is yet another testimony of high-handedness of police commandos with the particular incident of July 23 claiming the lives of two, including a young pregnant woman, and injuring five others.
Expressing that ceaseless fake encounters is not only making the common people suffer and family members of slain UGs endure the loss mentally as well as emotionally, Dilipkumar said such excesses committed by police commandos is akin to reducing the Government's surrender policy to mockery.
He also demanded that State Government demonstrate its commitment in safeguarding the people by ordering a thorough investigation and keeping the masses informed on the development.
failure to nail the culprit/s or remaining silent on the matter would be construed that the Government is indeed encouraging State-sponsored terrorism, the UCM functionary said.
He also proclaimed that time is ripe enough for NGOs and JAC formed in connection with the BT road firing/killing to launch massive agitation along with the people to protest such wanton killing.
Meanwhile, husband of the deceased Rabina Devi, Thokchom Chinglensana has lodged a complaint to the Manipur Human Rights Commission to probe the matter.
Reports suggest that MHRC member Lt Col (retd) RK Rajendrakumar has been assigned to lead the investigation and submit its finding within August 17 .
Consequently the MHRC member is informed to have formally notified to the State DGP to furnish relevant details on the alleged shoot-out within August 14 .
MHRC also fixed August 23 as the hearing date.
