Sangai count from Mar 14

A fresh headcount of Keibul Lamjao Sangais would begin from March 14 next year with the Wildlife Institute of India as observer.
This was informed by Chief Wildlife Warden W Anilkumar at the release function of 2012 calendar produced by Wildlife Wing of Forest Department at its Sanjenthong office today.
The exact population of Sangai in Keibul Lamjao National Park would be made public after the headcount is completed and a report submitted to the Government, Anilkumar said.
So far, the Government has not been disclosing the exact number of Sangai living in Keibul Lamjao.
However, the number of Sangai in Sangai Second Home at Langol has reached 15 after the birth of five new fawns sometime back.
He further informed that a pair of Yong Ekaithibi (Slow Loris) would be transferred to Yong Ekaithibi (Slow Loris) would be transferred to Darjeeling from Manipur Zoological Garden.
Saying that the department has taken up several measures against smuggling wildlife products, the Chief Wildlife Warden appealed to all the people not to touched animals categorised under Schedule I .
He also highlighted the department's woes resulting from shortage of staff.
