Jailed Mangi to contest poll as MPP candidate

In the latest development in pre-poll situation within Manipur People's Party (MPP), Yanglem Mangi who has been detained under NSA will be contesting the ensuing elections to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly from Heingang Assembly Constituency even as sitting party MLA from Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency today submitted his resignation paper to the President of the party.
Workers and supporters of MPP Vice President, Yanglem Mangi who has been booked under the National Security Act on alleged charge of having nexus with an UG group, today took his signature for contesting the election.
Mangi is currently lodged in Sajiwa Central Jail.
Meanwhile, RK Anand, sitting MLA of MPP, who was elected from Naoriya Pakhanglakpa for the first time in the last election, submitted his resignation paper to the party President Dr Nimaichand Luwang today.
Confirming the report, party sources conveyed that RK Anand may be hoping to contest the election on Congress ticket.
