The Thoubal District MP Candi-dature Demand Committee has appealed for the nomination of a Rajya Sabha MP from one of the eight Assembly segments of Thoubal.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, chief convenor of the Committee and ex MLA Y Thambal Singh said that after the sudden demise of Haji Abdul Salam who was nominated as a candidate for Rajya Sabha, the seat has remained vacant and a new member is to be selected by the 60 Members of the State Legislative Assembly.
He claimed that the Assembly Constituencies of Thoubal which include Heirok, Wangjing Tentha, Khangabok, Wabagai, Kakching, Hiyanglam, Sugnu have been deprived of the right to candidature in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency as reserved for ST since 1952 .
Thambal further pointed out that the Committee has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister to nominate a candidate for Rajya Sabha Bye Election 2017 from the said Assembly segments in the interest of 2,35,182 voters who can vote but have no rights to contest the Lok Sabha election since 1952 .
