Imphal, April 16 2017:
The Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) has condemned in the strongest term the threats issued by some persons who identified themselves as URF activities to Naharolgi Thoudang Editor Khoirom Loyalakpa and Joint Editor Tensubam Chandragupta (Gautam) .
A special meeting of EGM was held today and it observed that threatening media persons directly or indirectly is a challenge to the freedom of press.
In view of the strong worded threats issued by the URF against the Editor, the Joint Editor and their families, the EGM decided to urge the authority concerned to take up adequate security measures.
Khoirom Loyalakpa was asked by the militants to talk with Chief Minister N Biren and take Rs one crore for party fund on the pretext that N Biren is his brother-in-law.
Even as Loyalakpa turned down what the militants asked, he offered to help the outfit in media related works.
Yet the militants insisted that Loyalakpa should talk with the Chief Minister or else he and his family would be attacked.
They also threatened the Joint Editor to bar the Editor from entering their office adding that he too would be attacked if Loyalakpa is allowed inside the press office.
