Imphal, April 16 2017:
A team of the Peace and Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) today made a field inspection of the worn out roads located within and between Khundrakpam AC, Imphal East district and Saikul AC, Kangpokpi district.
Speaking to media persons in the course of the inspection tour, PDCC president W Kunjababu remarked that many of the district roads, inter-village roads and bridges are in very bad shape.

He said that the inspection tour was aimed at drawing attention of the new Government toward the deplorable condition of roads and bridges Both Waiton-Wairi and Wairi-Pourabi roads are in such a deplorable condition that they would be impassable once the rainy season sets in.
All the wooden planks of the suspension bridge built over Iril River between Keibi Heikak Mapal and Loushangkhong are missing and there have been incidents when people fall into the river while crossing the bridge.
The RCC bridge built over Iril River at Taretkhul has also started breaking down.
A portion of the railing has been replaced by bamboo after the concrete railing broke apart.
The bridge built in 1970 is a key link between several villages located in Chingdai area and Khamenlok area, Kunjababu said.
Another suspension bridge built over Iril River at Sadu Yengkhoman has started slanting.
As such, a disaster can occur any time.
The PDCC team also inspected Sadu Koireng-Dolaithabi road as well as Uyumpok-Purum Khullen road which are completely dotted with big potholes.
Likewise, Pangei-Ishika section of Imphal-Saikul road is full of potholes.
PDCC would now urge the Government to repair these dilapidated roads and bridges, he added.
