Imphal, October 11::
Reacting to the poll boycott call given by the Apunba Lup and the general strike imposed on the day of the by poll, NCP State unit president V Hangkhanlian today cautioned that such measures will only help the Congress get its candidate elected.
Talking to newsmen at the Manipur Press Club today, Hangkhanlian said that the NCP fully endorses the people's demand to revoke the AFSPA from the State, but the boycott of the by poll and the general strike called by the Apunba Lup will only help the Congress and its candidate.
The NCP leader also appealed to the public to be vigilant against any attempt made by the Congress to resort to proxy voting and malpractices taking advantage of the general strike.
He also urged the people to vote freely and fairly.
Accusing the Congress of violating the election code of conduct, Hangkhanlian said the SPF Ministers including the Chief Minister have been promising voters that they would be recruited into the IRB and given old age pension benefits if they vote for the Congress candidate.
This is unethical and against the code of conduct, he added.
On a confident note, Hangkhanlian said that the NCP candidate will win and further predicted that he will lead in at least 20 of the 24 polling stations.
