One non-local man was killed while two others were injured when unidentified gunmen shot them today at about 7.40 pm near the gully next to Muskan Store at Paona bazar.
The three included two betel leaf dealers and one tea vendor.
Reports culled from the site of the incident said that two unidentified gunmen barged into the gully and took hold of Jagdish Prasad (60) by the scruff of his neck and asked him to hand over all his money.
As the people converged to see what was happening, one of the two youths whipped out a pistol and opened fire.
Three people were injured in the firing.
The deceased identified as Ram Bahadur (23) a betel leaf trader succumbed to his injuries at the Chamber of Commerce hospital.
The other two who sustained bullet injuries have been identified as Jagdish, the man the gunmen first pounced upon and Mantu Mahato (20) a tea vendor from Bihar.
Both have been admitted to RIMS hospital.
