Despite the boycott call given by the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup and the general strike called on polling day, the Government is ready to go ahead with the Konthoujam by election scheduled to be held on October 13.With campaigning coming to a close today evening, polling officials along with security personnel will set out for their respective polling stations from the office of the DC, Imphal West tomorrow.
Konthoujam Assembly Constituency has a total of 23102 voters and they will cast their votes across 28 polling booths.
Of the total number of voters, women account for 11970 while men voters total 11110.Altogether 23 postal ballot papers have been issued for this Constituency.
Of this 22 are for service men while one is for an NSA detainee.
Voting will be held from 7 am till 4 pm.
The candidates in the fray are Dr S Budhichandra of the Congress (SPF), K Ranbir of the MPP (Opp), A Manihar of the MSCP, H Thoithoi of the NCP and independent candidates S Ibobi and S Nabakumar.
With the Apunba Lup calling a general strike on voting day and in view of the overall law and order situation, the Government has declared five polling stations of this Constituency as hyper sensitive while four have been declared as sensitive.
Patrolling in the Constituency has also been intensified.
Sources said that after the election, the EVMs and other polling material will be kept at room number F/22 in the office of the Imphal West DC at Lamphelpat under tight security measures.
Counting of votes will be taken up on October 16 from 8 am at room number 16 and 17 of the office of the Imphal West DC.
