To ensure safety and convenience of the public as well as to facilitate easy movement of vehicles and pedestrians in and around Khwai Bazar areas on the eve of Diwali, Govardhan Pujah and Ningol Chakkouba festivals being celebrated on November 9, 10 and 12 respectively, traffic regulations have been imposed with effect from November 9 to 12 in the said areas.
Issuing an order in this connection under section 115 and 117 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, Deputy Director of Transport (Planning) BK Sharma said that no vehicle including jeeps, cars, two wheelers, auto-rickshaws will be allowed to enter the Khwai Bazar area daily from 7 am to 6 pm from November 9 to 11 and from 7 am to 11 am on November 12.However, vehicles belonging to VIPs, Ambulances, the Fire Brigade, security personnel and Magistrates on duty would be allowed to ply along Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar Road.
Further, there shall be one way traffic for the pedestrians along the Paona Bazar Road and Thangal Bazar Road from south to north with effect from 1 pm of November 9 till the Diwali festival is over.
As for parking, the vehicles including jeeps, cars, two wheelers, auto-rickshaws and rickshaws would be allowed to park on the road side beyond Keishampat bus parking, Moirang Leirak bus parking, western side of NH-39 (near Johnstone Hr Sec School), northern road side of Uripok beyond Gopalji Leirak (i.e.end of flyover bridge), northern side of Khuyathong on DMC road and northern side of North AOC on DMC road, the order said.
The order further said that heavy vehicles would be diverted along certain routes.
Accordingly, all buses and trucks on Indo-Burma Road shall be diverted from the General Post Office towards Sanjenthong bridge to proceed to Khuman Lampak bus terminus via RDS crossing, Minuthong, North AOC and Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak and shall park on the eastern side of NH-39 Moirangkhom.
All buses and trucks coming along Mayang Imphal Road shall be diverted from Keishampat Junction towards former Krishnadas Oil Pump to drop/pick up passengers beyond former Krishnadas Oil Pump and to proceed Kwakeithel towards Ningthemcha Karong or Khagempalli.
All the buses coming along NH-39 shall be diverted from Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak towards Khuman Lampak bus terminus while all trucks shall be diverted from North AOC towards Minuthong, RDS crossing, General Post Office, Moirangkhom and Singjamei.
As for buses from eastern side like Yaingangpokpi, Lamlai, Porompat, Andro, Pangei, Yumnam Khunou, etc shall be diverted towards Khuman Lampak terminus from RDS crossing and Lamlong Bazar and for the truck, the route diversion would be same as that of for NH-39 or towards RDS crossing, Singjamei Bazar crossing and Thumbuthong bridge for Indo-Burma Road towards Pishumthong for Mayang Imphal to Tiddim road.
The order further said that all buses and trucks on Tiddim Road shall be diverted from Kwakeithel Bazar towards Tera Bazar, Naoremthong, Uripok Canteen Leirak Road, Lamphel Super Market and shall return via Watham Leirak, Thangmeiband Road, NH-39, Nityaipat Chuthek and pick up passengers from Churachandpur bus parking near former Krishnadas Oil Pump.
Moreover, all the vehicles coming from Kangchup side shall be parked on the northern side of Uripok (i.e., western side of barricade) and all vehicles coming from New Cachar road may be parked at Sagolband Moirang Leirak parking while trucks may be diverted from Tera Bazar, Naoremthong, Uripok Canteen Road and Lamphel Sanakeithel, Lamphelpat.
