Imphal, November 08:
Minister for PHED, TN Haokip has laid emphasis on the need for a joint awareness programme to make the total sanitation campaign a resounding success in the state.
Haokip was speaking at the release ceremony of the video cassette of a short film Korougi Anouba Masek and the audio cassette, Nokphadeggi Shidayai.
The short film, directed by Makhonmani Mongsataba was prepared by the Communication and Capacity Development Unit under the Information Education and Communication Production of the Total Sanitation Campaign.
Speaking as the chief guest at the function, Haokip stated that the success of the sanitation campaign depends on the awareness effort, where the public and media should work in cohesion with the health department.
Sanitation awareness is very low in rural and the hills areas, the minister stated, where primitive habits of human waste disposal and poor hygiene lead to diseases and other health problems.
Chief engineer of PHED GA Jaikumar Sharma stated that the campaign for provision of low economy latrines for every household in rural areas currently underway in five districts is progressing well.
The implementation of the project in the hill districts will begin very soon, he added.
The one hour short film was screened after the function.
