Imphal, January 29 2021:
Demand to reinstate the special status of Manipur should be introduced at Parliament.
Manipur State Council Communist Party of India (MSC CPI) said this in a statement issued today.
MSC CPI said the previous MPs from the State didn't explain in detail the history of Manipur at the Parliament and this has resulted in removal of the special status of Manipur.
The present MPs of Manipur should make sure that they brief the Nation through the Parliament about the history of Manipur and put up the demand to reinstate the special status of Manipur, added the statement.
The special status is not just about better financial benefits from the Centre but it also carries deeper meaning than that, added the statement.
Despite various plans and schemes including 'Look East Policy' and 'Act East Policy' that was supposed to benefit Manipur has not seen the light of the day and the policies on paper and on the ground are quite different as small business owners in the State are struggling to carry on trade in the face of various roadblocks and security checks in the highways, alleged MSC CPI in the statement.
Moreh which used to be a major trading town is becoming less significant with the opening of international trading posts at Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, added the statement.
MSC CPI added that if the Government does not put a check on deforestation at hill areas, planting of trees at valley will not be sufficient to counter the huge environmental impact.
MSC CPI expressed faith that if the leaders of the State work sincerely and selflessly, Manipur will surely see the light of development in days to come, added the statement.
