Imphal, January 29 2021:
Padma Shri Awardees, tribal folk singer and musician Rewben Mashangva and Potloi designer Hanjabam Radhe Devi were felicitated by Bhayyaji Joshi, National general secretary, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at Seva Bharati, Khwai Brahmapur, Imphal today.
The function was attended by the family members of the awardees, experts and well wishers of Manipuri culture.
It may be noted that Rewben Mashangva and Hanjabam Radhe Devi were conferred the Padma Shri award recently in the field of Art.
Hanjabam Radhe Devi (88) hails from Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai in Thoubal district and she has been designing Potloi for the past 58 years.
The 88-year-old, who, by her own admission, has lost count of the number of brides she has designed or draped, has been named for the Padma Shri, the country's fourth-highest civilian award, this year, reports The Indian Express.
Rewben Mashangva hails from Choithar village in Ukhrul district and is engaged in research work of folk music of the tribals with special emphasis on Tangkhul Nagas.
Rewben is known in the music circuit as 'the father of the Naga folk Blues', as a die-hard fan of Bob Dylan, but the loss of folk traditions of the North East troubles him, despite his unprecedented success as a concert musician, reports FirstPost.
