Opium seized

Imphal, January 29 2021:
Troops of 38 Assam Rifles posted at Saikul apprehended one individual carrying 18 kilograms of opium from an area near Ekou, today.
According to Assam Rifles, 38 AR of the Saikul post were on high alert since yesterday midnight by opening mobile vehicle check posts on important routes of Ekou on receiving information of the presence of opium manufacturing laboratory in Saikul under Kangpokpi district.
The opium was seized from one Mahindra Bolero driven in a suspicious manner at around 5 am.
The driver has been identified as Thangjamang Khongsai from Saikul.
He has been taken to PHC Saikul to undergo COVID-19 test.
The seized opium will be handed over to Saikul police station after learning its market value from the Customs Department, informed Assam Rifles.
It is reported that the operation was led by commander of Saikul Post, Captain Vivek Singh Yadav under the supervision of 38 AR Commandant, Colonel Hemchandra Singh.
