National Voters Day celebrated

As celebrated in other parts of the country, the 2nd National Voters Day was also celebrated in Manipur at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) today.
The function which was organised by CEO, Manipur was graced by Y Rameshchandra, State Election Commissioner and PC Lawmkungna, Chief Election Officer as the Chief Guest and President.
A Tombikanta, Additional Secretary, Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) and A Mobi, President, All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) was the Guest of Honours while Alok Sukla, Deputy Election Commissioner, ECI and KK Chhetry were the Special Guests.
Speaking on the occasion Y Rameshchandra said that the 1st National Voters Day was celebrated on January 25th, 2011 after the Cabinet of the Central Government passed a resolution in the regard.
The voter's day is celebrated mainly to make the students community aware of their voting rights.
The CEO, Manipur distributed voter cards to 10 newly enrolled voters on the occasion.
A documentary film on the programmes of SVEEP was also released on the occasion apart from releasing report book of SVEEP.
Prizes and certificates were also distributed to the winners of the District and State level essay competition based on election organised by AMWJU.
Meanwhile, a rally to give awareness to the voters of their voting rights participated by around 150 volunteers of NCC cadet as a part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation activities.
No 1 (M) Air Sqn (Flg), NCC Imphal also conducted a systematic voters education and electoral participation rally to create awareness among the voters to cast their valuable votes for strong democracy and not to sell their votes at Koirengei Airfield.
The rally was flagged off by Camp Commandant Flt Lt KU Singh.
A total of 350 cadets alongwith 20 PI Staff of No 1 (M) Air Sqn (Flg) NCC participated in the rally.
The rally terminated at Koirengei where they conducted Parasailing activity at Koirengei Airfield.
A total of about 100 cadets experienced the adventure of flying in the sky with a parachute.
This activity was also a part of the ongoing Annual Training Camp of the Squadron which started on January 22. Meanwhile, Air Squadron, NCC at DM College Campus will be organizing a Blood Donation Camp on January 27 at the campsite of NCC near EMA KONGTHONGANBI MANDIR.
