AMSU stresses on importance of customs, tradition for future generations

A first State level open folk song competition was organised by the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) at GM Hall today.
31 individuals are taking part in the competition and they were judged by renowned folk song singers namely Bedapati Lourembam, Reuben Mashangva and Goshe Meitei.
Former Dean, School of Humanity, Manipur University, Professor Soram Sanatombi, AMSU president Manjit Sarangthem and secretary Manipur State Film Development Society Dr Hamom Nabachandra attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking about the first ever State level folk song competition, AMSU president Manjit Sarangthem stated that the event is not just about competition but making the youngsters and the new generation aware about Manipuri folk songs which has deeply relation and connection with the age old tradition and culture of the State.
He added that the function was organised as part of the "Know your Manipur campaign" also.
AMSU president said that it is important to safeguard the tradition and culture of Manipur which was once one of the sovereign country in the South East Asia with more youngsters taking part in protecting it.
He stated that the ever growing and swift influence of western culture and the whole idea of westernization has posed a huge threat to the culture of Manipur and its people, especially the young minds.
He called on the different communities residing in the State to come together and follow the rich tradition of the forefathers and maintain peace, love and development in the State.
The top three winners of the competition are Thongam Loijingkhanbi, M Merinda and N Taibang Meitei respectively.
On the other hand, 10 persons were selected for the consolation prize namely Sh Thabaton, W Puja, O Romila, S Lamjingleima, Kh Lanchenbi, Kh Alice, Khomdram Roshi, Ph Sovelina, Th Rajiv and RK Selviasana.
