Cyber crime workshop

National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Akampat organised a one-day workshop on cyber security awareness at Sericulture complex, Sangaipat today.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, Imphal East SP Kamei Angam Romanus said that it is high time to organise such workshops considering the increasing rate of cyber crimes in the State.
He also urged the gathering to put in collective effort to prevent cyber crimes.
Organising committee secretary T Gunachandra said that unwanted crimes are happening in the State due to wrong usage of mobile phones and internet.
The workshop was organised with an aim to check this menace, he said and added that 20 police officers each from Imphal West and Imphal East, who are at the rank of Sub-Inspector and above were taking part in the workshop.
Rate of cyber crimes would automatically come down once police personnel are fully aware about tackling the menace, he added.
Although, most of the police officers are aware about the existing cyber laws, mass awareness programmes are yet to be organised, he added.
He said that persons, who are convicted under different sections of cyber laws are liable to get jail term from 5 to 10 years.
