TG Rape Case:: Tarun, William convicted

After the landmark verdict sentencing all four accused to life term in the sensational U-morok trader's rape case few months back, the accused duo Tarun and William of TG rape case were convicted by the Court of Sessions Judge of Manipur East A Guneshwar Sharma here today.
However, the sentence hearing of the case would be held on December 11 .
The accused persons namely Manipuri digital film singer and actor Thongam Tarun (28), s/o Jayenta of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and commando driver Yumnam William (28), s/o (late) Deben of Khagempalli Pankha were found guilty by the Court under section 376 (2) (g) of IPC (gang rape) and under section 120-B of IPC (criminal conspiracy) .
It may be mentioned that the duo allegedly raped a girl student of TG Higher Secondary School at a restaurant located at Changangei Ucheckon on October 20, 2012 .

The accused Tarun and William were present at the courtroom at the time of pronouncement.
The police whisked away them from the room soon after the Judge pronounced their conviction.
A large number of women folks including family members of the victim, who were waiting outside the court complex, tried to thrash the convicted persons when they came out from the courtroom.
However, the police managed to move them out from the spot without any untoward incident.
Talking to media persons after the pronouncement of conviction, Director of Prosecution Ng Tejkumar said that the hearing of the case began from March 12 this year.
The statements of 22 witnesses from the side of prosecution were recorded within a short time.
The statement of Tampha Fastfood owner was crucial in delivering justice to the victim, he noted.
He further said that the two landmark verdicts in U-morok trader's rape case and TG rape case of this year would send out a strong message to the perpetrators who commit heinous crimes against women.
On a sad note, Public Prosecutor Tejkumar said that he would not handle any more of rape case in his future career other than the pending ones.
He has worked sincerely as a responsible advocate trying to deliver justice to the victims, but some persons claiming to be from civil society organizations made baseless allegations and even threatened him with dire consequences.
He has successfully worked as a public prosecutor in the rape cases of U-morok trader and TG student.
On the other hand, the victim's mother wants death sentence for the convicted rapists Tarun and William.
She said that their sentence should be an exemplary punishment to end rising rape cases in the State.
