Imphal, December 09 2013:
Contrary to the Indian Constitution embracing the United nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights people in the North East region as well as Jammu & Kashmir have been enduring violation of rights under the Indian military, said PREPAK in a statement issued ahead of the International Human Rights Day.
Taking into account the global fraternity's aspiration to live under a secure environment, having faced the brutalities of two world wars, the UN on December 10, 1948 adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with the objective of ensuring political, economic and cultural rights of every communities in the world.
Severe rights violations during revolutionary movement in the United States against the rule of United Kingdom (1776) and the French Revolution (1789) were also contributory factors for the UN convening a special session to adopt Universal Declaration of Human Rights being observed throughout the world as the International Human Rights Day, said a PREPAK statement issued by its assistant secretary of Publicity and Propaganda LeibakNgakpa Luwang.
Inspite of globally accepted and implemented, the Declaration remains irrelevant in Manipur as Indian security forces have been carrying out random execution of Manipuris under the pretext of counter-insurgency operation besides committing atrocities against the Manipuri womenfolk for the last many years, PREPAK asserted.
While the Indian Constitution technically advocates Republican Democracy in real term there is no republican ethos, noted LeibakNgakpa and further stated that the Constitutional pledge for Fundamental Rights of all the citizens is being contradicted by the prolonged imposition of AFSPA in the region and J&K.Inspite of being a component of India, in reality Manipur and other peripheral States are considered as the fortresses of mainland India a fact that could be illustrated by the indifferent attitude of Indian leaders and continuous violation of human rights by Indian security forces, he said.
The recent Supreme Court outbursts against the Government of Manipur against rampant violation of human rights and fake encounters in the State is a testimony that people of Manipur have been enduring severest form of atrocities.
The genocidal agenda of India against the people of Manipur has been confirmed by the Supreme Court decree issued by Justices Altaf Alam and Ranjana Prakash Desai for a thorough investigation in cases of fake encounter killings in Manipur followed by the findings of Human Rights Commission of India and Amnesty International, India, substantiated the PREPAK functionary.
Justifying the ongoing armed revolutionary movement in Manipur, he said such a campaign or right to live in freedom is guaranteed by the December 14, 1960 UN General Assembly's 'Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples' .
Rather than upholding the UN principle as a member nation and acknowledge aspiration of the people of Manipur, India has been scheming to dissect Manipur by encouraging propagators of Alternative Arrangement or Statehood Demand.
Reminding that every section of the society could prosper only when there is unity and bonhomie among the indigenous people of Manipur, LeibakNgakpa said even though demands for separation from Manipur has not yet been granted Indian leaders are satisfied and cheerful that the seeds of community enmity has been firmly planted and spreading in Manipur.
Observance of International Human Rights Day is not only an opportunity for the people to introspect suffering under the Indian rule but also to realise that aspiration of every indigenous community would be a reality when the people remain united and act cohesively, said the PREPAK.
The observance is another occasion for cross section of the Manipuri society to realise that along with protecting human rights it is the duty for all the people to ensure that the people do not suffer any longer, which will only be possible when sovereignty is restored, he declared.
