North East students to unite through culture

North East Student's Organisation (NESO) is all set to organize the 4th North East Cultural Festival in Arunachal Pradesh's capital Itanagar from August 7 to 10. Speaking to reporters in this connection at the office of All Manipur Students� Union (AMSU) H/Q here today, Thokchom Suresh, President of AMSU said, "During the festival, student delegates from the region would perform and showcase their respective indigenous art and culture and it would create a common platform to acknowledge and understand the rich tradition of the entire North East".
A team of around 100 students from Manipur including the office bearers of AMSU would take part in the 4-day-long cultural conclave.
Other student bodies from the region like All Assam Students' Union (Assam), All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (Arunachal Pradesh), Tripura Students' Federation (Tripura), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizoram), Naga Students' Federation (Nagaland), Khasi Students' Union and Garo Students' Union (Meghalaya) would also be sending their representatives to the conclave.
Suresh revealed that student delegates from Manipur would perform Manipuri indigenous games and other cultural items like Pung, Folk Dances and Sumang Lila, Mukna, Thang-Ta, Kang, Yubi-Lakpi, etc.
during the festival.
Apart from it, delegates from the entire NE states would also take out a procession from Aasdip to Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Itanagar to spread the message of cultural unity and peace among the people.
The four-day long cultural festival would also witness some serious discussion on issues related to students during a panel dialogue on "Vision and Challenges of North-East Students", Suresh added.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of AMSU has reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister, Government of Manipur to increase the intake capacity of students in four premier colleges of the state, namely D.M.College of Science, D.M.College of Arts, D.M.College of Commerce, G.P.Women's College, and Imphal College.
