Imphal, January 22 2010:
The proscribed Manipur People's Liberation Front, MPLF, in a press release called on the people of Manipur to support the Republic Day boycott and the general strike on January 26 .
Republic Day, according to the release, is the day when the framework of law to enforce colonialism the Constitution of India was imposed on the people of this land.
The Constitution has failed not only to safeguard the human rights of the people of this region but also in the name of democratic rights the central government has been hatching many plots to divide the people of this land.
Asking the people to dwell on these points, the release appealed not to participate in any function related with the Republic Day celebration and prevent any such function being held.
The strike will begin from 1am will continue till 5.30 pm of January 26 and during this period, the MPLF, has appealed to the people to stay indoors, not to ply any vehicles, not open shops or conduct business, not to ogranise any entertainment programme including cinema shows.
However, media, medical service and religious ceremonies will be exempted from the strike, said the release.
