Two houses were almost razed to the ground in Moreh last night.
The incident occurred at Premnagar/Morning Bazar Ward No 4 around 10.30 pm of January 21 .
The two houses belonged to one Rajesh Naidu (34), son of Sankar Naidu of Moreh Moring Bazar W/No.4 and Kshtrimayum Birchandra (56), son of Late Ksh.
Chaoba of Singjamei Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai, Imphal.
According to Rajesh Naidu, around 10.30pm last night there was a big bang like the bursting of crackers but after a while when he saw smoke and flame coming out from the room adjacent to his, he called out for help to put out the fire.
People from the nearby area and 31 AR, Moreh Police, Meira Paibis, Tamil and Meitei youths tried their level best to save the houses.
And he expressed gratitude to them for their help.
The timely arrival of the Fire Brigade also helped in saving some portion of the houses, he continued though there was resentment among the people about the fact that the Fire Brigade was not carrying enough water.
Property worth Rs 2 lakh was lost in the fire, according to the owners.
Gen Secy of Tamil Sangam S.Rabichandrana expressed that the fire tenders at the Moreh Fire Brigade has leaks, as a result of which they are not able to carry adequate water.
Considering that Moreh is a very hot area, Rabichandran drew the attention of the authorities to induct up to date fire tenders in Moreh.
Two persons received electric shock while trying to disconnect the electric supply as the Electricity department failed to do so in time.
Another five persons were also injured in the fire.
People of the locality revealed that the landlord of the place where the fire started is not staying there at the moment as a result of which the place has become a den of drug addicts.
The people of the locality asked the landlord to come and make sure that the incident is not repeated again.
They have also asked the club and organizations around the locality to take note of the situation.
According to some locals, there are some eye witnesses who saw two masked miscreants hurl petrol bomb.
