Imphal, January 22 2010:
Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF) has appealed to all the people of Manipur to extend their full co-operation and support to the general strike being called jointly by six UG groups of the region including MLPF to boycott the Republic Day celebration of India.
In a statement, permanent body, MPLF said that every individual should understand that Republic Day of India is the day when the Constitution which supports the black laws being imposed in Manipur and the region had come into force.
Every individual should also analyse that the Constitution of India has not only been able to ensure human rights of the people in the region but has also been creating disunity among the people in the name of 'democratic rights'.
With clear understanding of these facts, none of the people in Manipur should participate in the Republic Day celebration of India and its related programmes, MPLF appealed.
The MPLF statement further said that no one should venture out on the roads, no vehicle should ply, all entertainment programmes including cinema shows should stop, trading activities should cease and all shops down their shutters while the general strike is in effect from 1 am to 5.30 pm of January 26.However, media, medical service and religious function would be exempted from the purview of the general strike, it added.
