Opposition parties pile heat on Govt

A delegation of seven Opposition political parties of the state is going to meet the Governor tomorrow and pressed him to look into the issues over illegal appointment of certain staffs in the State Secretariat and scandal over cleaning up Loktak Lake involving crores of rupees.
The seven Opposition parties include CPI, MPP, JD (U), JD (S), CPI (M), Trinamool Congress and BJP.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Dr M Nara, CPI, State Secretary, said that the Assembly Secretariat which is being regarded as a sacred place is now packed with the issues over appointment of a large number of staff illegally.
It is very unfortunate that the wife of the Speaker has been involved in the issue.
So, a delegation of the seven Opposition political parties would be meeting the Governor tomorrow to press for investigation into the matter.
Dr Nara observed that if the issue is not solved at the earliest; the people of the state would lose their faith in the State Assembly henceforth.
On the scandal over cleaning up Loktak Lake involving Rs 224 crores, Dr Nara said that one private company by the name of K-Pro which had been registered only recently was given the contract work for clearing of phumdis from the Lake.
But it has been learnt that K-Pro along with another firm by the name of Progressive Construction Limited is executing the work for the cleaning up of Phumdis from Loktak Lake.
This issue would also be taken up to the notice of the Governor in the meeting tomorrow, Dr Nara informed.
Furthermore, the delegation of the seven opposition political parties, which would call on the Governor would also urged him to look into cases of misappropriation of huge amounts of funds provided under ICDS project through Social Welfare Department, Dr Nara disclosed.
On the 'imminent settlement' of Naga peace process, Dr M Nara categorically stated that at no point issues related to threat on the territorial integrity of Manipur should be brought up.
There is the urgent need to ponder over the possible decisions that could be taken by India Government in this regard, Dr Nara said, adding, the Chief Minister of Manipur should call an all political parties meet to discuss the matter.
He also informed that a delegation comprising members of all the political parties in the state would be leaving Imphal for Delhi shortly to meet leaders of national parties and brief them about the present situation in the state.
The team would also press the national leaders to bring up the issue of Manipur in the Parliament.
S Umananda, President of MPP; ex-Minister N Mangi; RK Shivachandra of Trinamool Congress; Sarat Salam of CPI (M) and M Tombi, President of JD (U), Manipur were also present during the press conference.
