Police Raising Day

The State Police today celebrated its 120th Raising at 1st MR Parade Ground with Chief Minister O Ibobi as the chief guest.
Notably Home Minister Gaikhangam was absent.
The Chief Minister inspected the parade and received the guard of honour from 18 contingents of various units of the police department which was led by HT Gangte, Commandant, 5th IRB.
A total of 97 police officers and personnel were decorated with the DGP Commendation Award and Disc on the occasion in recognition of their excellent performance in CI ops and duties.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi stressed on the need to maintain cordial police-public relation.
He said that the public should feel safe and secure when they see or confront police personnel while advising them to be extremely cautious and courteous while performing their duties.
The Chief Minister also praised the efforts of the Manipur Police in combating the various threats to internal security while also stating that the State police force is reckoned as the best police force in the country.
He added that the State police earned great reputation for dealing with complex day-to-day law and order problems.

DGP Joykumar also extolled the police personnel to carry out their duties with utmost devotion, courage, conviction and professionalism.
Other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Speaker of the State Assembly, Ministers, MP, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, and high ranking civil and police officers.
The State Police force, it may be mentioned, was raised in October 1892 with FL Crawford as the Commandant and just 14 local officers, 49 NCOs and 400 sepoys.
