NPO endorses UNC

Toeing the line of the United Naga Council (UNC) for upholding customary practices during the constitution of the village authorities or village heads, the Naga People's Organization (NPO) has endorsed the said decision of the UNC.
Stating that the order of the State Government to elect their respective village authorities as per the household taxes and other criteria is contrasting to the right to life and protection of customary practices and laws.
It also added that, the traditional practices since time immemorial cannot be subjected to artificial adjustments and that, it is determined to protect the historical practices and laws.
It may be recalled that, owing to the expiry of official tenure of village authorities in many villages, a Government order was issued by SDO office, Purul sub-division of Senapati district to all concerned villages to elect their respective village authority members according to their household taxe figures.
Appealing the Government authorities to respect the values, dignity and customary uniqness of the Nagas, the NPO has also advised to all concerned villages to exercise their customary practices and not otherwise.
