State Police celebrates Raising Day sans Home Minister

The 120th raising Day of Manipur Police was celebrated at the Parade Ground of 1st Manipur Rifles here today with the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as Chief Guest.
Interestingly, Home Minister Gaikhangam, who is the most important person of the Home Department, was conspicuous by his absence from the celebration.
Though no specific reason for the failure of the Home Minister to turning up is known, there are reports doing the round that the name of the Home Minister was 'missed' from printing in the invitation cards of the celebration.
As such the invitation cards have not been circulated among the top officials as well as to media.
However, sources close to the Home Minister asserted that he could not attend the function due to some health problems.
Kicking off the celebration, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh inspected the guard of honour and received the march past salute given by 18 contingents of different units of Manipur Police lead by Commandant of 5th IRB HT Gangte as Parade Commander.
Altogether 97 Police officers and personnel were given the DGP Commendation Award and Disc on the occasion for their excellent performance in counter insurgency operations and law and order duties.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that the Police-Public relation is a very important aspect of modern day policing.
The public should feel safe and secure when they see the police personnel.
He advised the police personnel to be extremely cautious and courteous while taking action under the law and said that they should be able to ensure a sense of security to the general public.
While praising the efforts of the Manipur Police in combating threats to internal security, the Chief Minister said that the Manipur Police force was reckoned as the best police force in the country and added that it has earned a great reputation for itself in dealing with the complex day-to-day law and order problems.
Acknowledging the difficulties being faced by the police personnel in maintaining law and order, the Chief Minister urged the police personnel to perform their duties with sincerity and save the integrity of the state so that there can be peace and development in the land.
DGP Y Joykumar, who was also present and spoke on the occasion, stated that Manipur Police which was once ill-trained to cope with certain issues are now well-trained to handle any situation.
He also urged the Police personnel to carry out their duties with utmost devotion, courage, conviction and professionalism.
The celebration was also attended by Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Ministers, MPs, Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs and high ranking civil and police officers.
It may be mentioned that on October 19, 1892, the genesis of the State Military Police took place with F.L.Crawford as the Commandant with just 14 local officers, 49 NCOs and 400 sepoys.
