Aizawl, October 19 2012:
The Opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) has asked the ruling Congress government to weed out corrupt practices.
"Going by the statements of chief minister Lal Thanhawla in more than one occasions that government doctors practising privately are receiving Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) and also that these government doctors run private clinics, the chief minister is aware of corrupt practises in Mizoram," said the MNF in a press communique.
It then asks, "Even after knowing all these then what is the chief minister waiting for without acting on corrupt activities?" .
"September 24 at Vanapa Hall while attending the felicitation programme of Health department Lal Thanhawla had said that 'Mizoram doctors run private clinics while receiving Non-Practising Allowances (NPA).
He also stated that these doctors also work for other private hospitals while employed at the government run Civil Hospitals.
Even some wanted to take out the machines of Civil Hospitals, according to the chief minister.
While according to his speeches, Lal Thanhawla knows very well that corrupt activities are rampant but then whether he tries to uproot them is the question," said the Mizo National Front.
The MNF then accused the Congress party MLA Nirupum Chakma of siphoning off almost all the development funds meant for the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) .
The MNF said that Nirupam Chakma has, in his father SK Chakma's name, executed the work of Kamalanagar Public Librarya which cost Rs.10,00,000 utilising Rastrya Sam Vikash Yogana (RSVY) fund.
Moreover, the work of building extension and electrification which cost Rs.10,00,000 is also being executed in his father's name, utilising the Backward Region Grant Fund (BRGF), MNF alleged.
MNF further said that, Nirupam Chakma utilised RSVY fund Rs.15,00,000 for the construction of Duloram Girls Hostel, which he established in his grandfather Duloram Chakma's name; also utilised Multi-Sectoral Development Programme (MSDP) fund for construction of the same building at a cost of Rs.42,50,000.Moreover, for construction of Duloram Public School a fund of Rs.50,00,000 is also being arranged in the central government's Ministry of Tribal Affairs, MNF pointed out.
Further, Nipuram Chakma also let out the SK Public Library building to his son-in-law instead of using for library.
it alleged.
"This kind of behaviour of the MLA amounts to the misuse of power and a big corruption, so without simply keeping it up to the Court, let the chief minister uproot it," MNF urged.
