Dy CM advocates harnessing of medicinal plants in State

The two-day national workshop on "Sustainable Development of Medicinal Plants Sector in North Eastern India" organised by Forest Department, Government of Manipur in association with National Medicinal Plants Board, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India concluded at Jubilee Hall of RIMS, Lamphelpat here on Tuesday.
The closing function of the workshop was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as Chief Guest and Additional Chief Secretary of Manipur Nikhilesh Jha as President, while Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Bala Prasad and former Governor of Chhattisgarh Shekhar Dutt attended as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam appealed to the researchers and entrepreneurs to do extensive research on medicinal plants grown in the state and make the best use of such plants.
He further said that out of 6500 medicinal plants found in India, more than 1200 plants are grown in Manipur.
Besides being the powerhouse of sports and the land of rich art and culture, the State should also try to find a prominent place in the medicinal plants sector, Gaikhangam noted.
Around 300 scientists and researchers from different parts of the country took part in the workshop.
