Imphal, October 15 2014:
With campaigning for Hiyanglam by-polls officially coming to a close at 4 this evening, BJP State Unit President Th Chaoba hit back at the Congress one more time.
Addressing a press conference at their Nityaipat Chuthek office, Th Chaoba alleged that the Congress Government has not taken up any development work in Hiyanglam A/C except establishment of three police stations to harass the youth of the Constituency during 13 years of their rule.
Hitting back at the Chief Minister's sarcastic remarks on Chaoba's assurance of opening bank accounts for the people of the Constituency and transferring of Rs 5000 to their accounts, the State BJP President questioned whether the Chief Minister is aware about Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
Under this scheme, Th Chaoba said that it is possible for a beneficiary to get a credit card after transfering Rs 5000 to their account within six months.
Chaoba said that he had never told the people of the Constituency that he would transfer Rs 5000 each to their bank account.
Saying that Hiyanglam AC has not witnessed any change in road condition, water and electricity facilities in the past 60 years, Th Chaoba said that not even a single candidate from the Constituency has been recruited in several police recruitment examinations conducted during the Congress rule.
However, the Congress Government did not forget to set up three police stations in the Constituency to harass the youth, he added.
Responding to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam's remark on bringing film artistes and singers to election campaigns, Th Chaoba said that these artistes turned up on their own understanding the Congress 'misrule' .
BJP had neither requested nor forced the artistes to join electioneering of the party, he added.
Th Chaoba queried whether the State Government had taken up any welfare scheme for the artistes who have been constantly bringing laurels to the State.
Although, Meghalaya Chief Minister requested the Prime Minister to open the National Film Institution in their State soon after the Centre announced the project, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi did nothing in this regard.
Maintaining that the State Government can seek projects from Central Government agencies like Railways and Airports Authority of India etc, Th Chaoba said that the Ibobi led Congress Government is unaware of such projects but is only interested in waiting for Central funds.
Construction of City Convention Centre has already been completed in Tripura, he said and added that the same project is moving in the State at snail's pace.
Expressing confidence that BJP candidate would emerge victorious in the Hiyanglam by-poll by a margin of not less than 2000 votes, he said that former MLA M Kunjo guided his son M Dhanabir to join BJP.
Dhanabir became a member of BJP on March 7, 2014 and the party high command alloted the party's ticket to him as Dhanabir took active part in the election campaign of the Lok Sabha polls.
Regarding, Yambem Laba's allegation levelled against him, Chaoba said that he had filed a defamation suit worth Rs 50 crore against Laba.
Saying that the matter is being investigated by CBI, Chaoba said that anybody who is convicted has to spend life in jail.
