SBCWS keeps up age-old ways of gifting 'Yorla'

In keeping with the Tangkhul customary practice, Somdal Baptist Church Women Society (SBCWS) has extended its love to the village ''yorla'' by presenting gifts on its 80th anniversary.
On Thursday at Somdal Baptist Church, SBCWS presented gifts and sought blessing for over 300 village ''yorla'' keeping up the age-old tradition of the Tangkhuls.
In traditional parlance, the term ''yorla'' is referred to women married outside the native village.
The third day of SBCWS's 80th anniversary was specially programmed for Somdal yorla, who are married to different communities and faiths across the country.
As many as 300 yorla arrived and attended the auspicious occasion.
A group of yorla from various towns and cities also enthralled the congregation with songs and messages.
On Thursday afternoon session, Joint Director of Tribal Research Institute (TRI) Solomon Zingkhai delivered a speech on behalf of all yorla's husbands while Yaitamchon Huray and Tamyaola Yanlem spoke on behalf of all women married outside their native village.
Somdal Baptist Church Pastor Rev.Aping Khamrang, also invoked a blessing for them.
Earlier in the morning session, Yaoreila Muivah delivered a sermon on "Building Wholesome Family" from Christian perspective.
On Wednesday, the anniversary monument was unveiled by Rs.Phanitla.
In forenoon session, the theme exposition on ''Higher Call'' was made by Yaoreila Muivah.
The speaker called upon the women gathering to move forward with renewed faith in the Almighty God and expand its service to mankind.
In the concluding ceremony, Ngayeilei Chanhongnao spoke on "Empowering Women in Mission." To mark the closing of the anniversary celebration, a mass candle lighting was held and the flag de-hoisting was done by Kr.
Alice.
On Friday, SBCWS will organize a special feast for yorla.
Meanwhile, the organizers have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all those that have contributed towards making the programme a success.
