Lecture programme held

A one-day 'Tattwabodha Lecture Programme' organised by Manuscripts Resource Centre of Manipur State Archives under the aegis of National Mission for Manuscripts, New Delhi was held today at the Archives' Keishampat premise with retired Prof (History) Gangmumei Kamei and Art & Culture Director Dr K Sobita Devi gracing the inauguration programme as the chief guest and functional president respec-tively.
In his address, Prof Gangmumei highlighted to historians that chronicling historic events should be based on thorough research works with scientific support to ensure precision in future references.
Stating that maximum care should be taken for comprehensive and precise presentation of history and culture, he also informed that 'Tattwabodha' is a Sanskrit terminology meaning 'knowledge'.
Further pointing out that history based on scientific research would be surest way to avoid controversies, Prof Gangmumei said no historian should take their work for granted as there are many would be eager to point out any error.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Sobita opined that the ancient Manipuri manuscripts (Puya) need to be compiled for further research to authenticate the contents and its significance.
As the Puya contain several descriptions on various aspects such as political, medical, culture and historical knowledge of the forefathers there is need for even more minute scrutiny for easy reference by the future generation, said the Director.
As resource persons of the lecture session, Padmashri RK Jhaljit Singh elaborated on 'Coming of Hinduism and Its Reflection in Manuscripts' while Associate Professor (History) Dr N Birachandra Singh spoke on 'Cosmogony in Ancient Manipuri literature (Leishemlon)' .
