Imphal, February 07 2013:
Drawing the attention of the Education Minister, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has asserted that private schools are collecting huge amount of money from the students by taking advantage of the "deteriorating" condition of government schools in the state.
In a memorandum submitted to the Education Minister, the student body pointed out that the quality of education imparted in government schools has deteriorated over the years and this has compelled the parents to send their children to private schools in the quest for quality education.
Taking advantage of the situation, these private schools are now collecting huge amount of money from the students on various pretext like monthly fee, admission fee, transportation fee, establishment fee, development fee, maintenance fee, registration fee, enrolment fee, internet fee, etc.
Referring to the Recognition Rule No 5 (b) of Board of Secondary Education Manipur and Education (S), Government of Manipur which states that, "the aim of the management should be to impart quality education to the children and not to earn any profit", AMSU contended that over and above the monthly fees, private schools are even charging exorbitant library, service charge and computer fees from pre-nursery, nursery and KG students.
These charges and fees are beyond the capacity of most parents and are in violation of school Recognition rule, AMSU pointed out in its memorandum.
