GOC 57 Mountain Division Maj Gen KK Sinha visits

GOC 57 Mountain Division Maj Gen KK Sinha visited Khoupum Valley of Tamenglong district on February 6 during which the General Officer reviewed security situation and addressed a mass gathering of the villagers.
According to a PIB (DW) release, the GOC stated that he was extremely pleased to visit the people of the beautiful valley and expressed his gratitude to the village authorities for having made it possible for him to interact with the villagers in such large numbers.
The villagers expressed their deep satisfaction at the presence of the Army in the Valley and reportedly confided to the GOC that the valley had in the recent past, fallen victim to notorious activities of the UGs to which Maj Gen Sinha assured the villagers that the Army would do its best to help improve the security situation and living condition of the people.

The GOC also promised that as part of military civic action programme, the Army will send a team of school children and teachers exclusively from the khoupum Valley on a National Integration Tour.
"This will be a wonderful opportunity to the young and impressionable children to broaden their knowledge and awareness," the release quoted the GOC as saying.
The GOC also said that other initiatives are also being planned by the Army to enhance the standards of living of the people of the area.
Nestled between the Leimatak River on the East and Irang River on the West, Khoupum Valley is amongst the most picturesque valleys of Manipur state.
Blessed with a moderate climate, surrounded by thickly wooded trees and endowed with the Khoupum Dam, it is one of the places with a potential to draw tourists in the hordes, highlighted the PIB (DW) release adding, "unfortunately, the Old Cachar Highway (which at one time was the only link from the state to Assam) remains in a state of neglect and acts as a dampener for this immense potential.
