1,02,282 sanitary toilets constructed

The State Government has so far constructed 102282 sanitary toilets for the poor families under the Total Sanitation Campaign taken up as a part of the Central Rural Sanitation Programme.
Under the Total Sanitation Campaign, the Union government is targeting to provide low cost sanitary toilets to all the families living under BPL and APL in the rural areas of the country 2017 .
In Manipur, the state government is keeping the target of constructing 1,94,887 low cost sanitary toilets for people living under BPL and 68,367 sanitary toilets for the people living under APL by 2017 .
So far, 73,539 sanitary toilets have been built for people living under BPL and 28,743 sanitary toilets for those families living under APL.
In Bishnupur district, a total of 11,963 sanitary toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 19002 toilets.
In Chandel, a total of 8985 toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 17,610 toilets; in Churachandpur; 9,317 toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 37,525 toilets; in Imphal East, a total of 9,195 toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 25,119 toilets; in Imphal West, a total of 10,054 toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 25,013 toilets; in Senapati, a total of 17,075 toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 76360 toilets; in Tamenglong, a total of 11,177 toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 14,866; in Thoubal, a total of 15,327 toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 28,514 toilets and in Ukhrul, a total of 9,189 toilets have been constructed out of the targeted 21,088 toilets.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, L Swamikumar, Director, CCDU Lamphelpat, said that an amount of Rs 3700 is sanctioned to a family living under BPL and APL for construction of a low cost sanitary latrine.
But each of the beneficiary family has to deposit a sum of Rs 300 .
He further said that the construction of the sanitary latrine is taken up after the Village Sanitation Committee, chaired by the Pradhan of the respective village submitted relevant reports to the government.
For the people of the state to lead a healthy life, safe drinking water and proper sanitation is required.
As such the campaign is being taken up by the Central government in collaboration with the state government, he added.
