Imphal, June 15 2020:
In view of the mounting samples which must be tested for COVID-19, the State Government has written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation to suspend all flight services to Imphal from June 18 to June 28 .
"As on date, there are five flights landing in Imphal.
The State Government has decided to stop all passenger flights for a period of 10 days to clear the pending backlog of testing and also clear the congestion in quarantine centres.
As discussed, I request you to stop all passenger flights to Imphal from June 18 to June 28 .
Kindly issue necessary instructions to all airlines, DGCA and the AAI," Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu wrote in a letter addressed to Ministry of Civil Aviation Joint Secretary Usha Padhee.
Due to heavy inflow of people from outside the State, there is a substantial delay in testing for COVID-19 and there is a huge backlog of 15,000 samples, said the Chief Secretary's letter.
Nonetheless, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has informed all airlines that there would be at least one flight between Imphal and Delhi every day, sources said.
