In a significant achievement in the ongoing drive under 'War against Drugs' campaign of the N Biren Singh-led government, Thoubal district police busted a Brown Sugar factory at Moi-jing Mina bazar in Thoubal district on Tuesday and recovered 222.85kg of Brown Sugar, materials used in operating the factory and also arrested a woman.
Producing the recovered contraband item, materials used in running the factory and the nabbed woman in front of media at Thoubal district police headquarters on Tuesday, Thoubal SP Jogesh chandra Haobijam informed that a large police team led by himself and also consisting of women personnel raided the house of one Thoubalmayum Ahamadi Bibi (48) wife of Th Kadimur alias Kadim of Thoubal Moijing Mina bazar from 7.30 am after getting a specific report about running of a Brown Sugar factory in the house.
The police team also com prising additional SP(Ops) O Wangkhomba and commando team led by CDO Unit Thoubal OC inspector N Sadananda Singh first recovered four plastic sacks and two plastic containers (Brite) containing suspected Brown Sugar.
When tested in the presence of civil witnesses, it was confirmed that the contraband item was Brown Sugar and seized them immediately.
The police team later recovered utensils and other materials used in running the Brown Sugar factory.
The recovered items included four plastic sacks (yellow colour) containing 109.48kg of Brown Sugar, one blue colour plastic container (brite) with 58.19kg of Brown Sugar, one red co lour Brite bucket containing 55.18 kg of Brown Sugar, The police team also recovered wooden crushing machine, electric mixing machine, weighing machine used in making Brown Sugar, two 1.5 litre capacity bottle containing ammonium chloride, two Brite containing 34 litres chemical liquid solution, one blue colour plastic drum, two red colour Brite, one aluminium container, five plastic tubs, three buckets, two mugs, two small tubs, five cloths, gas burner and gas cylinder, he said.
All the recovered items and nabbed Ahamadi Bibi have been handed over to Thoubal PS after registering a case under NDPS Act to investigate further, Jogeshchandra Haobijam added.
The press conference was also attended by additional SP (Ops) O Wangkhomba, CDO Unit Thoubal OC inspector Sadananda and other police officers of the district.
Meanwhile, Bishnupur District Police arrested three women with 2.238 gm of heroin during an operation conducted at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Jemboi (26) w/o Thangboi Kuki, Kim Mary Kilong (22) w/o Kaigin and Neineng Lengthang w/o Chungkham Lengthang.
All three are from Muktokhal village under Tousem sub-division of Tamenglong district.
According to a police report, on receiving information about some women transporting drugs along Old Cachar road, a team of Bishnupur PS carried out frisking and checking operation near VDF post, Leimaton on Tuesday afternoon.
During the operation, the team halted a Tata Sumo carrying three women passengers and conducted a search, wherein 2.238 gm of heroin packed in 43 soap cases were recovered.
The arrested women and seized drugs have been handed over to Loktak PS for further course of legal action, the report conveyed.
