UKAL suspends proposed stir till October 19

Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) on Saturday decided to put off its planned agitation over the contentious Govindajee Temple Board (3rd Amendment) Bill, 2014 after the Manipur Government gave positive response to its demand.
Representatives of UKAL and state Government met yesterday at the Chief Minister's Secretariat, and during the meeting the two sides reached understanding over the controversial Govindajee Temple Board (3rd Amendment) Bill, 2014, UKAL Advisory Board chairman Ng Kanjiya said.
The Government side was represented by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, Works minister Dr Kh Ratankumar and retired Commissioner, Youth Affairs & Sports, RK Nimai at the meeting.
Fourteen members of UKAL led by Kanjiya attended the meeting.
He said Chief Minister Ibobi will attend the coming 6th session of the Mera Mipham of UKAL to be held on October 19, adding Ibobi also assured the organization during the meeting that he would clarify on his controversial remarks that the Governor was yet to give his assent to the Govindajee Temple Board (3rd Amendment) Bill, 2014 .
Ibobi also assured the UKAL side that the Government would consider withdrawing of the controversial Bill or making amendments to it in the coming winter assembly session, Kangjya said.
UKAL has decided to defer its proposed stir over the Bill till October 19 in response to the state Governments assurance, he announced.
