Imphal, May 07 2012:
Expressing unhappiness over the unruly conduct of some people at the live concert of American rock bank FireHouse here last night, All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has observed that it was a smear on the name of Manipuri society.
In a statement, Secretary Publicity and Propaganda of AMADA Headoffice K Hemabati Chanu asserted that more than 70 percent of the people who came to the concert may be under the influences of drug and alcohol and it is very unlikely that 50 percent of the people may be listening to the songs.
There was also evidence of complete inefficiency on the part of the organizers in managing not just the crowd but also the event itself.
The scene witnessed in and around the concert venue where young boys and girls venue freely abused drugs had also completely negated the effort of AMADA in organizing academic awareness programme to prevent drug abuse among school children.
Visit of Internationally acclaimed rock band like FireHouse to Manipur is a rare occasion which should be welcome.
Nonetheless, the organizers should have taken extra caution not to give a bad impression about Manipuri society to the visitors.
The organizers must have also given attention to the current burning issues besetting the state, Hemabati observed, while suggesting consultation with others before going ahead with organizing such concerts in future.
