Online capacity building programme for Para Legal Volunteers conducted

An online capacity building programme for the Para Legal Volunteers of the Legal Aid Clinic for Gender and Sexual Minority Communities was organized by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) today through JITSI MEET Platform.
As per a press release by MASLSA, the programme was attended by Ojesh Mutum, Member Secretary, MASLSA and Sorokhaibam Sadananda, Additional Member Secretary, MASLSA.
Resource persons, Chongtham Momon Singh, Advocate and member, MASLSA highlighted on the roles and responsibilities of PLVs, the process of handling cases referred to the LACs and how effectively the PLVs may intervene in any unwanted crisis.

The programme was also participated by around 20 PLVs of the trans Legal Aid Clinic.
It may be mentioned that the dedicated legal aid clinic for the trans community was opened on October 12, 2021 to address the multifarious issues faced by the gender and sexual minorities in Manipur.
The main higlights of today's programme included sensitization of the Polling Officers so as to treat transgender voters with dignity and to carry forward the pending application to MASLSA through the Legal Aid Clinic regarding the matter for the issuance of Transgender ID card and certificate which is currently pending at the District Magistrate of Thoubal and Kakching, added the press release.
