Jiribam MLA resigns, joins JD-U

Md Ashab Uddin, who got elected from Jiribam as-sembly constituency as an in-dependent candidate in the last assembly election and played a crucial role in the formation of the BJP-led coalition govern-ment, has tendered resignation from being a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.As per a bulletin issued by Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat secretary K Megha-jit Singh, consequent to the resignation of Md Ashab Uddin, Jiribam assembly constituency is lying vacant with effect from Friday.Meanwhile, reports stated that Md Ashab Uddin has joined the Janata Dal-United later in the day.On the other-hand, Shan-glakpam Preshyojit, who contested as candidate of the Indian National Congress (INC) from Thongju AC in the last assembly election, has joined the Janata Dal (United) with many of his workers on Friday.Extending a warm welcome to Preshyojit during a reception function held at the party's office in Hodam Leirak, JD-U state secretary general Mais-nam Doren Singh said that the increasing number of people joining the party has proven the rising strength of the party under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.
He then informed that the party would be holding another core committee meeting regarding the candidates to be fielded and the final list will be announced in one-go.
Although the exact date of announcement is not fixed, at least three sitting MLAs would also soon be joining JD-U, along with seven ex-MLAs, he added.In his speech, Preshyojit said that he was influenced by the vision and leadership of JD-U le ader Nitish Kumar and as such, joined the party.
He then said that he would work hard to encourage the youth of the constituency to become self-employed, while also solving the poverty issue of the constituency.
