Women teams to man 71 polling stations in Thoubal, Kakching

Thoubal, January 28 2022:
Out of 391 poll-ing stations in 10 assembly constituencies spread across Thoubal and Kakching dis-tricts, 71 polling stations will be fully manned by women polling personnel in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assem-bly election, informed Dis-trict Election Officer and DC Thoubal A Subash.
In an exclusive interview with this correspondent on Friday, A Subash said that there are enough polling personnel for 10 assembly segments of Thoubal and Kakching districts and the first phase of training for them had been completed while the second phase will begin once observers arrive.
Second round of training for all women polling personnel teams had also been complet-ed and preparations are on to provide online training to polling personnel, he added.According to A Subash, altogether 46 sector officers have been appointed to over-see election related activities in Thoubal and Kakching dis-tricts and requisite training for them had already been completed.
As close tap on expendi-ture is very important for fair and free election, 26 fly-ing squad teams have been formed to monitor election expenditure as also surveil-lance teams, he said, adding that Lilong AC among the 10 constituencies has been declared as 'expenditure sensitive constituency' and additional attention will be paid to the constituency.
Regarding the precautionary measures to prevent spread of COVID-19, A Subash said that every polling station in the two districts will be sanitised before commencement of the voting process and every step will be taken to ensure that voters get hand sanitizer and face mask.
He also said that efforts are on to conduct election related meet-ings only at places identified by the ECI with strict adherence to Covid-19 SOPs and as per ECI guidelines.
He then urged voters in the two districts to make the upcoming election a peaceful one while maintaining that district administrations of both the districts have almost completed necessary prepara-tions for the election.
